Jeonnam-Gwangju Industrial Belt

Jeonnam-Gwangju’s proposed industrial belt brings advanced manufacturing, materials and renewable energy into one regional strategy. The idea is to connect complementary strengths across Gwangju and the eastern and western parts of the region.

Gwangju

Advanced manufacturing

East

Materials and parts

West

Renewable energy

As outlined in the Europe Office’s October 2026 briefing, Gwangju would focus on semiconductor and AI-related manufacturing. The eastern area, including Yeosu and Gwangyang Bay, would build on its industrial and logistics base to develop materials and parts supply chains.

The western area would contribute renewable energy, with offshore wind, solar power and industrial sites designed to use renewable electricity forming part of the proposed approach. Reliable grid connections are essential to linking new generation with industrial demand.

The belt is a development strategy, with several elements still at the proposal stage. Its delivery depends on investment, specialist facilities, skilled workers, suppliers and electricity infrastructure. It should not be understood as a single completed industrial park or an open investment programme.

For European businesses, the strategy provides a way to explore connections between manufacturing, industrial materials and energy. Related regional initiatives include the Gwangyang Bay secondary-battery zone and Bitgaram Energy Valley.

Let’s explore the possibilities.
