Hi, we are Yuri, Cheng-En and Minchul and we want to tell you a lot about Asian dishes and their food culture. We started EasyCookAsia to enable you to cook Asian food at home and at the same time learn about the culture of the country where the food comes from and think a little bit outside the box.
We all come from Asia, where there are a variety of dishes that are cooked in different ways. When we came to Berlin in Sept 2017, we were surprised at how many people shop at Asia Markt. However, we realised that many were overwhelmed by the selection, most of which were also labelled in different languages.
We wanted to solve this problem and started to develop a suitable product. Cheng-En and Minchul met as fellow students at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR). Here they started EasyCookAsia as a project in the ‘Design Thinking’ course.
We quickly learnt the motto ‘Done is better than perfect’ and applied to a start-up competition called ‘Make it Lean Contest’ (organised by Start-Up Incubator Berlin). Surprisingly, we won two prizes and successfully completed the crowdfunding campaign.
The reason why we are doing this is because we firmly believe that food is more than just food. Our first contact with foreign cultures is usually through their cuisine. Therefore, we want to go a step further and show you what we and other Asian communities eat.
We hope this will lead to a better understanding and acceptance between different cultures. Of course, we also hope that you enjoy learning more about Asian cuisine and its stories, just as much as we enjoy providing you with them.
Remember: #WeCookCulture
Thank you for your support!
Yuri, Cheng-En, and Minchul
